DAVID ALONSO GIVES NO CHANCE TO HIS RIVALS AND WINS IN AUSTIN

The CFMOTO Aspar Team rider has led the race from start to finish to take his second win in three Grands Prix.

CFMOTO Aspar Team rider David Alonso has taken victory at the Grand Prix of the Americas after leading the race from start to finish. The Colombian, who has started from pole position for the first time in lifeworld Championship career, has showed great pace from the start and has been able to open up a gap in the first laps. Alonso has given no option to his rivals, and after leading all the sessions of the weekend, in the race he has achieved a gap of more than six seconds over the chasing group. Little by little, as the performance of his tyres has started ping, the Colombian has seen how his rivals have started closing the gap, but Collin Veijer’s crash has allowed Alonso to escape again and cross the finish line with a five-second advantage. With this victory, the CFMOTO Aspar Team rider has his second win of the season and is only two points behind the World Championship leader, Daniel Holgado, who has finished second after an intense battle for the podium.

Five riders have fought for the two remaining podium positions. Joel Kelso and Veijer have crashed when they were fighting in the chasing group and the Dutch’s crash has conditioned the final fight, as Holgado and Japanese Ryusei Yamanaka have had to avoid him. This incident has allowed rookie Ángel Piqueras to move into podium positions, although Holgado has shown a great pace and has been able to chase him and to overtake him on the finish line. Holgado's second place allows him to maintain the World Championship lead, while Piqueras has achieved the first podium of his life in his third race in Moto3. All this in a race in which one of the favourites, José Antonio Rueda, who had qualified second, has been unable to compete after undergoing surgery for appendicitis.

Joel Esteban has finished ninth after a great comeback at the Circuit of the Americas. The CFMOTO Aspar Team rider has started from sixteenth position and a crash of another rider in front of him in the first corner has relegated him to last place. In addition, he has had to complete a long lap penalty. However, this has not been an impediment to keep progressing. Esteban has been very competitive and once again he has finished in the top ten. The young Spanish rider has scored points in all the races he has contested in Moto3 and occupies ninth position in the overall standings.

1st David Alonso: "I did not expect to have a weekend this, it is incredible. We have been working day by day and I had dreamed of getting a victory this, a solo victory. I have not pushed too hard and I have had a moment of crisis with the tyres, but I have been able to hold on. The mental management has not been easy either. We have had a perfect weekend, but the World Championship is going to be long. It is very difficult to make a difference and to get a big points advantage, so every point counts."

9th Joel Esteban (+19.325): "I have not made one of my best starts and there has been an incident between other riders which has caused me to fall a long way back. I have managed to come back, I have started to push and although I have not been able to arrive to the front group, I am happy with the race."
